Course Outline - Conflict Management (Peshawar University) - MBA (One & Half Year)
Course Objective
This course is designed to facilitate practical and critical analysis of organizational conflict. Students will examine the centrality of conflict to the individual tension of autonomy and connection. The role of conflict in the organizational tension of stability and change and learning to recognize the potential opportunities conflict brings. This will involve exploring the causes of conflict and its escalation, individual and third party approaches to managing conflict such as negotiation and mediation, and the relationship of all these to effective conflict management system design.
Course Outline
At the successful completion of this course the student should be able to comprehend and /or use:
- The causes of conflict and conflict escalation, leading to greater ability to alter non-productive responses to conflict.
- Types of conflict those are beneficial and detrimental to individual, group, and/or organizational outcomes, leading to ability to foster productive conflict
- The advantages, disadvantages, and potential outcomes of a variety of conflict management strategies.
- Analyze the characteristics of a given conflict, improving their ability to select appropriate conflict management strategies for different conflict situations.
- Improve their own conflict performance through attention to the basic of effective dialogue and negotiation.
- Improve their ability to facilitate conflicts as third party through attention to the basics pf effective mediation and other intervention strategies.
- Make suggestions for organizational dispute system design or conflict management policies and procedures.
